Planned gifts—including bequests in wills and trusts, beneficiary designations for IRAs, retirement plans, and life insurance—are very important to the future financial vitality of our organization. Making your gift intentions as precise as possible will help us use it exactly as you desire.

Please review the following steps to complete your designation within your will or living trust:

Step 1:  Determine Your Gift Designation or Amount.

Step 2:  Describe the Purpose of Your Gift.

Choose one option

• for the unrestricted use and benefit of Kansas City University
• to support (Program or Department Name) at Kansas City University  
• to establish the (Named Endowment or Fund), the distribution of which is to be used to support (Program or Department Name) at Kansas City University
• to fund the previously established (Named Endowment or Fund) at Kansas City University.

Sample Language

For Unrestricted or General Gifts:

I give, devise and bequeath to Kansas City University, a non-profit corporation, located in Kansas City, Missouri, “the sum of $_________” OR “____% of my estate owned by me at my death,” OR “____% of the residue of my estate” OR “the following described property” to be used “for the unrestricted use and benefit of Kansas City University,” OR “to support the __________ (program or department name).”  

For Designated Gifts:

In addition to the above, add:

This gift is to be used to establish or fund the ___________ (named endowment or restricted fund), the distribution of which is to be used to support the __________ (program or department name) at Kansas City University.**

**Designated gifts should be documented with a written gift agreement between the donor and Kansas City University.  Upon notification or receipt of the donor’s gift, if no written gift agreement exists, and/or if Kansas City University determines that the stated purpose of the gift is no longer reasonable, possible, or available, this gift may be used at the discretion of Kansas City University for its general or educational purposes.

Beneficiary Designations for IRAs, Retirement Plans or Life Insurance Policies may designate “Kansas City University.”  Please designate a percentage or dollar amount for the policy or plan and include the appropriate EIN# on the beneficiary designation form to be filed with the financial services company. 

Step 3:  Inform Us of Your Gift!

• Provide a copy of your document’s first page, signature page, and page including your gift provision or beneficiary designation page.
